Heidi Fish: Dives Into Making Couture Swimwear For The Stars

by: Pamela Petrich

What does a mother of five know about designing couture swimsuits? Well, if her name is Heidi Fish - ALOT! Heidi began her design career in 1998, when a friend bet her $50.00 she couldn't make and sell swimsuits. Up to the challenge, Heidi sewed her first swimsuit in her kitchen. She quit her 16 hr a day job as a Food and Beverage Manager, swapped her computer for her first industrial sewing machine and the rest is history. It is no surprise however, to many people who know Heidi that she is driven to succeed.

After all, she learned to sew when she was three years old and took direction from her German grandmother. It can be said that sewing is well, literally in her blood. You see, her grandmother worked at Sak's in the 1930's and 40's as a designer and later designed costumes for movie stars like Ethyl Merman and the Rutherford family. Heidi juggled the demands of single motherhood while pursuing her passion for design. In the 80's she designed her own outfits, "I would see my ideas on magazine covers, and I just knew somehow my passion and talent would overcome my fears of change."

Recently, Heidi's swimwear designs were featured at Hollywood's Celebrity Catwalk and she has worked relentlessly to showcase her work nationally. Her designs have been featured in many fashion publications including, Apparel News, W, WWD, Surface, Moda, Grace, as well as in the book, "Without Sound", by Rossano Maniscalchi's, world-renowned photographer.

Heidi Fish's swimsuits are for every woman. They are custom-fit for all shapes and sizes and she continually works on creating exciting new designs that are unique to the discriminating woman. Heidi hopes to soon open showrooms in Los Angeles and New York. Today, Heidi's designs are sold online at heidifish.com

Not just satisfied with fashion and high couture, Heidi knows the importance of giving back to the community and she supports two chairities: nicolebrown.org and childhelp.org - both dealing with battered women and children. She believes, -- Change will not happen until everyone is conscious of the need to change.
